When the wind is right
On a cosmic night
Haunts me like a ghost
Watch the shinning silver fall
Reflections like a mirrored ball
Swirl about my soul
Council of sky
Wisdom falls like the rain
And I fly close these eyes
I'm more alive than I’ve ever been
When I ride away
On a painted horse
Earth and fire
These strange desires
To fade away like the sun
Nights she fall
And I run away
Because the crying sky calls
And the sting of wind is cold as hell
With a glow of warmth upon my back
And a hum that rattles through my bones
I feel that I am close at last
When I ride away
On a painted horse.
This is a pen and wash study based on an image of a colourful paint Arabian harness horse, competing in a Driving class at the world famous Scottsdale All Arabian Horse show, which is an annual event held in Scottsdale, Arizona. I captured the moment on a visit to the show with a group of fellow Aussie Arabian horse lovers.
History records that there were indeed coloured Arabians in the ancient deserts of Arabia but they did not survive to modern times. These days, coloured Arabian horses are part breds, resulting from breeding a purebred Arabian to a coloured mare or horse of another breed. They are very popular. providing the elegance and temperament of the Arabian horse in a painted package.
I loved the high stepping, forward going picture this horse and driver provided, muscles rippling as they trotted around the arena.
The song I found on google and rather liked the lyrics and the singer, Jon Prophet. I thought you might enjoy his performance. Art and music are soul brothers.
